Anomaly

 Anomaly by Krista McGee

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - 5 stars
“Thalli has fifteen minutes and twenty-three seconds left to live. The toxic gas that will complete her annihilation is invading her bloodstream. But she is not afraid.

Thalli is different than others in The State. She feels things. She asks questions. And in the State, this is not tolerated. The Ten scientists who survived the nuclear war that destroyed the world above believe that emotion was at the core of what went wrong—and they have genetically removed it from the citizens they have since created. Thalli has kept her malformation secret from those who have monitored her for most of her life, but when she receives an ancient piece of music to record as her community’s assigned musician, she can no longer keep her emotions secreted away.

Seen as a threat to the harmony of her Pod, Thalli is taken to the Scientists for immediate annihilation. But before that can happen, Berk—her former Pod mate who is being groomed as a Scientist—steps in and persuades the Scientists to keep Thalli alive as a test subject.

The more time she spends in the Scientist’s Pod, the clearer it becomes that things are not as simple as she was programmed to believe. She hears stories of a Designer—stories that fill her mind with more questions: Who can she trust? What is this emotion called love? And what if she isn’t just an anomaly, but part of a greater design?”

Series: #1 in the Anomaly series

Ok, have I added Krista McGee to my list of favorite authors? I have enjoyed this book immensely and am so glad I borrowed the rest of the trilogy from the library. Wow. Just, wow. The epilogue… evil. Pure evil. You scientist! The whole world Thalli lives in is insane! No emotions. Humans are genetically engineered. Imagine having no curiosity, no feelings of love, hope and joy. No marriage. No children. No faith. Worst of all, no knowing Our Father, Jesus Christ. All I can put into words right now is this: I absolutely enjoyed this book!

Characters:

Thalli: Her love for music was amazing! Imagining all the beautiful sounds she created was wonderful. There are so many things I could say about Thalli and Berk but I don’t know how to form it into words.

Berk: He was so… wonderfully caring. He loved Thalli so much but he didn't even know it was love until halfway through the book. So sorrowful. Both main characters were pretty awesome.

John: He was such a kind elderly gentleman. I am so thankful for his part in sharing about Jesus Christ, the Designer.

Quotes:

“Death may come. I am not afraid. Because death is only the beginning.” -Thalli

“‘Movie?’ ‘It’s an ancient form of entertainment’”  -Stone and Thalli

The quote above brought me to a smile. I never thought I would hear the term movie being called ancient.

“Sometimes it’s best to withhold the whole truth in order to protect people.” -Stone
Mmmm… I’m not so sure. Let me think about that

“A church is a place where people who want to worship the Designer gather together.” -John
Yes, I suppose you could put it that way. However, as the body of Christ we would actually be considered the church.

“I will die the way I learned to live. Fully aware. At peace. With a heart so full of love that even as it slows, it is still full.

Because I know something the Scientists refuse to acknowledge.

Death is only the beginning.” -Thalli
