Will the stars align?

Avery has always used music as an escape. But after her best friend betrays her, even her perfectly curated playlists can't help her forget what happened. To make matters worse, her parents have dragged her and her social-media-obsessed sister to a remote family camp for two months of "fun." Just when Avery is ready to give up on the summer altogether, she meets Brooks—mysterious, frustratingly charming Brooks—who just happens to be on staff—which means he's off-limits.

What starts as a disaster turns into . . . something else. As the outside world falls away, Avery embarks on a journey of self-discovery. And when Brooks offers her the chance of a lifetime, she must figure out how far is she willing to go to find out what she wants and who she wants to be.

Fan favorite Kasie West is back with another unforgettable summer romance that reminds us falling in love is full of wonder, heartache, and—most of all—surprises.”

Series: No

I read the summary thinking “Oh, this looks like a cute summer read. Sara Ella gave it a five star review, I should check it out” Turns out this book was such a mindless and boring read.
First of all, I absolutely despised how Avery lied to her parents and sister about such a huge thing. Avery’s parents were SO MUCH MORE laid back about that issue than mine would have been. I applaud my parents for that. I applaud my parents for not acting like Avery and Lauren’s and am grateful. This theme of lying to your parents, sneaking out when grounded, and disobeying the rules of the camp is unethical.
Secondly, this whole talk of asking for signs so you know to do something seems dumb. The reason I say this is because you are basically asking the universe and stars to decide something for you when you should instead be seeking the Lord on matters at hand.
Was there anything I actually like about this book? Hmmm… I don’t believe so. I honestly wanted a fun summer-y read, yet it was not fun and maybe a bit summer-y. This goes to show you why I don’t read much secular romances. The characters are generally foolish and the storyline is predictable. Nothing interesting happens. It also makes me want to tell the whole group of characters about the Lord, because they clearly need Him.

Characters:

Avery: Lied WAY too much.

Brooks: Broke a major camp rule. Was into signs from the stars. Cursed under his breath too much. (They never spelled out the words but still said he did so.)

Lauren: She was WAY too into social media.
